Arcep launches a public consultation on the allocation of 5G frequencies in Reunion and Mayotte

On 19 December 2019, Arcep launched a public consultation with a view to preparing the procedures for awarding licences to use frequencies in the 700 MHz band in Reunion and Mayotte, and in the 3.4 – 3.8 GHz band in Reunion, both of which will be carried out in 2020.

This consultation is part of a major evolution for mobile networks, resulting from the introduction of 5G whose deployment must help businesses to be more competitive, unleash innovation and satisfy users’ expectations of having access to increasingly powerful mobile services. To this end, the 700 MHz and 3.4 – 3.8 GHz bands have been identified in Europe as being among the “pioneer” frequencies for launching 5G networks.

Stakeholders are invited to send their contributions to Arcep before 28 February 2020.
