ARCEP is aware that internet service provider, Free, has installed an ad-blocking system in the latest version of its internet box that is enabled by default. The Authority is taking a close look at the terms and conditions under which this system is being employed, and at whether it complies with existing electronic communications laws. To this end, ARCEP's Director General sent a letter to Free today to obtain information on the system's ultimate purpose along with a detailed description of its rules of operation. ARCEP expects to receive the ISP's response by mid next week.
