ART authorises pilot-trials

Paris, 6 May 1998

The French Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ART) has authorised wireless local loop (WLL) pilot trials in the 3.4-3.6 GHz frequency band in France. ART has allocated frequencies from this band to SAGEM, to test the technical feasibility of a point-to-multipoint system in Cergy - Saint Christophe, in the Val d'Oise region.

ART launched the preparatory phase for WLL deployment last month. It will last for approximately one year, during which time operators and manufacturers will be able to carry out technical and commercial trials in the wireless local loop in frequency bands 3.4-3.6 GHz and 27.5-29.5 GHz.

ART is now accepting applications for frequency allocations in these bands, to enable trails to begin as soon as possible.
