ART launches a public consultation on how to exchange caller location data on lines identified by non-geographic numbers

Paris, 27 September 2004

Within the framework of new telecommunications services, in particular voice on IP, certain operators are offering telephone services on lines identified by non-geographic numbers.

For calls made on these lines, the location data traditionally transmitted to interconnection interfaces-the number of the calling line-are not sufficient to accurately locate the caller.

This caller location information is important, in that it allows interconnected operators to route certain calls to the appropriate call centres (such as for emergency calls), or for certain invoicing applications for their interconnection services.

ART is publishing this document, subject to consultation, at the request of several operators. It proposes additional caller location information which the operators can provide to the interconnection interfaces.
