Bettina MEDIONI appointed Director of Legal Affairs at the French Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ART)

Bettina Medioni recently became Director of Legal Affairs at the French Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ART), thus completing ART's senior executive staff appointments.

Bettina Medioni, 38, is an ordinary-court judge. She began her career in January 1988 as administrative assistant at the Cour de Cassation, the court of final appeal in France on questions of law, before joining the Directorate of Civil Affairs at the Ministry of Justice in 1990.

In January 1991, she was appointed technical advisor to Bruno Durieux, Junior Minister for Health, and then head of legal affairs at the Ministry of Trade.

From March 1993 to 1995 she directed the legal and administrative affairs department in the Information Division (broadcasting bureau), where she laid the groundwork for legislative and regulatory reforms in the field of broadcasting, before joining the staff of Xavier Emmanuelli, the secretary of state for humanitarian action, in 1995, as head of international humanitarian law.

Previous to her appointment at ART, Bettina Medioni had been assisting the professor Jean-Claude Casanova, in his high-level study on the missions of justice, since October 1996.

The Legal Affairs Division at the French Telecommunications Regulatory Authority is responsible in particular for:

- the legal aspects concerning developments in the regulatory framework,
