Mobile telephone penetration reaches 70% in France

Autorité de régulation des télécommunications (ART) made public today the figures from its Mobile Observatory for the second quarter of 2004.

During the past quarter, 300 000 new customers of mobile telephony services were recorded, bringing the total to 42.2 million in France at 30 June 2004.

The mobile telephony penetration rate in France reached the 70% mark for the first time. The share of customers having chosen a flat-rate package continues to increase, reaching 60.6% of total customers.

7.5 million customers are now active users of multimedia services, representing 18.7% of total active customers, Close to 900 000 new users were added with respect to the previous quarter, for a 13% increase.

A total of 51 800 mobile telephone numbers were effectively ported between operators in Metropolitan France during the second quarter 2004.
