Tribute to Marie-Thérèse Alajouanine, Head of ARCEP's Standardisation unit

It was with great sorrow that we learned of the passing of Marie-Thérèse Alajouanine, the Head of our ITU coordination and standardisation unit, on 27 June.

A member of the Corps of Engineers, Marie-Thérèse was part of a small circle of ARCEP's founding members, and was a steady driving force in public policies on telecommunications. She was made a Knight (Chevalier) of the Légion d'honneur on 1 January of this year and, in 2004, became the first woman to chair an ITU working group: the group responsible for the operational aspects of providing services and networks, and the quality of their operation. A vibrant presence and adored by all, Marie-Thérèse was very involved in the work done by the European Conference of European Postal and Telecommunications administrations (CEPT) and the International Telecommunication Union (ITU).

From 2002 to 2012, she chaired the editorial committees of Plenipotentiary Conferences, at the World Telecommunication Development Conference (WTDC), the World Radiocommunication Conference (WRC), World Telecommunication Standardization Assemblies and the ITU World Conference on International Telecommunications. Marie-Thérèse Alajouanine was also a member of the telecommunications standardisation advisory group, and chaired the group in charge of coordinating France's work within ITU-T, representing members of both administrations (DGCIS, ARCEP, ANFR) and private sector stakeholders involved in this work.

Services will be held in Montluçon at 10 a.m. on 8 July.

We at ARCEP send our deepest condolences to her family and friends. An e-mail address has been created for anyone wanting to send their condolences, which will be passed on to the family: dir.internationale(@)arcep.fr
