The French Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (ART) has adopted two decisions enabling Omnicom and Siris to participate in the second draw to reserve a prefix for long distance carrier selection. This draw, which will enable the companies to choose from the remaining available digits, will take place by 15 November 1997 at the latest.
Numbers 7, 8 and 9 were reserved for Télécom Développement (subsidiary of the national railway ( SNCF) and Cégétel), France Télécom and Netco (Bouygues group) respectively during the first draw. Numbers 2, 4, 5 and 6 are still available.
By adopting such decisions ART continues to pave the way for opening up fixed telephony to competition on 1 January 1998.
