Forum on French-speaking ICT and AI governance
Arcep Executive Board member, Xavier Merlin, took part in the panel discussion on “How does AI alter access to knowledge?” at the 2nd Forum on French-speaking ICT and AI governance, hosted by the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). He presented the findings of the report on “Generative AI: challenges for the future of the open internet”.

Assises du Très haut débit
The talk by Arcep Chair, Laure de La Raudière at this 20th edition of the conference on superfast broadband focused on “digital infrastructures under pressure” (energy, commercial and foreign).

GREP meeting
Mireille Clapot, a member of Arcep’s Board, travelled to Malta (accompanied by Arcep officials specialising in the postal sector) to take part in a plenary meeting of GREP, the Group of European Postal Regulators. The participants discussed with the European Commission the forthcoming review of the postal regulatory framework, the preparation of which is based on GREP’s work and contributions from national regulatory authorities. Arcep voted in favour of the GREP report.

Economic Affairs Committee hearing
The National Assembly’s Economic Affairs Committee held a hearing with Arcep Chair, Laure de La Raudière (watch it on the National Assembly website). On the agenda: Arcep’s workstreams and its evolving role, its means and its competencies. Discussions between the Chair and members of Parliament covered a wide range of topics, including the concrete issues that users and local officials are facing, such as post office closures, the upcoming shutdown of 2G and 3G networks, the final FttH connections, and the deterioration of street cabinets. “Arcep has been successful in shepherding the major transformations in electronic communications in France,” “I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate you and your teams…” Members of Parliament also commended the Authority’s work and the “unflagging commitment” of its teams. MPs are nevertheless concerned about the means allocated to carry out Arcep’s newfound responsibilities in regulating digital infrastructures.

Arcep Chair trip to Corsica
Arcep’s Chair, Laure de La Raudière, visited Corsica. On the agenda: a visit to an optical connection node (NRO) in Eccica-Suarella. This was followed by the inauguration of a mobile site forming part of Orange’s targeted coverage scheme in Corsica.

Vivatech trade show
A delegation of Arcep Executive Board members, including Marie-Georges Boulay, Zacharia Alahyane and Xavier Merlin, visited the Vivatech trade show. Quantum computing, AI and the environmental impact of ICT, sovereignty issues and last mile delivery: the outing provided an opportunity to talk with digital ecosystem stakeholders about the overarching technological shifts that are shaping the networks of tomorrow.

Meeting with Parisian newsagents
As part of the Authority’s work on regulating press distribution, Executive Board members, Mireille Clapot, Zacharia Alahyane and Akim Oural, met with a number of Parisian newsagents, located in the 12th arrondissement. These direct discussions helped to gain a first-hand understanding of the operational realities that newsagents are grappling with: in addition to the central question of remuneration, discussion focused on key issues for the safeguarding the viability of these points of sale, managing the selection of publications and number of copies shipped, levers of trade diversification, and the conditions governing their profession (billing arrangements, IT tools and relations with the sector’s ecosystem).

Arcep Executive Board member and BEREC vice-chair, Sarah Jacquier-Pélissier, and Arcep Chair, Laure de La Raudière, attended the plenary meeting of the Body of European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC).
