    9th BEREC Stakeholder Forum

    The first of the year’s two BEREC Stakeholder Forums will be held online on 1 April, focused on the theme of sustainability. Anaïs Aubert, Deputy head of Arcep’s Economic analysis and digital intelligence unit, and co-chair of BEREC’s “sustainability” working group will discuss the work being done by that group.

    Presentation of the Arcep report on achieving digital sustainability

    On 11 June, Arcep launched its “Achieving digital sustainability” collaboration platform, and invited all interested parties to join the effort, through a series of workshops and discussions on the environmental footprint left by networks, devices and uses. This work formed the basis of a co-authored report, which includes a diagnosis, contributions from the participants, and preliminary proposals from Arcep. This is the report that will be presented during a videoconference on 15 December (Registration required).

    Paris Zéro Carbone Forum

    Hosted by La Tribune and Paris City Hall, the Paris Zéro Carbone forum will bring together experts, economists, climate scientists and businesses to debate concrete ways to achieve carbon neutrality in 2050. Sébastien Soriano will participate in a roundtable at 2:30 pm on 10 December on “Smart territories and cities: building sustainable and eco-friendly networks”, during which he will answer the question of whether ecological and environmental imperatives are compatible with the explosion of digital tech usage, spurred by the rise of fibre, superfast broadband access and 5G.

    IRG/BEREC

    On the programme for this joint plenary meeting of the Independent Regulators Group (IRG) and the Body for European Regulators for Electronic Communications (BEREC), which Arcep Executive Board member, Emmanuel Gabla will attend: guidelines for co-investment in very high-capacity networks, and for access regulation, and the work programme for 2021. On the previous day, 9 December, Emmanuel Gabla will be taking part in a workshop hosted by BEREC on environmental issues.

    Scorecard of data-driven regulation actions

    In early 2016, Arcep unveiled its strategic roadmap, launched twelve priority initiatives and began a new form of action: data-driven regulation. Its core principle: harness the power of information to steer the market in the right direction. Five years later, the time has come to assess how well this major tool has done. The press conference will also be an opportunity to present the 2020 scorecard on mobile quality of service, as well as the new coverage maps produced in the wake of the new 98% reliability threshold that Arcep has demanded from mobile operators (open to journalists).
